Service on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church at 11:00 am with calling there from 9:00 am. Burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
James Norelle Crutchfield (“Shorty”) was born on July 26th, 1930. He lived most of his life in Indianapolis, Indiana. Son of the late Perry Jackson and Bernice Brown-Crutchfield, he graduated from Crispus Attucks High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Sondra Taylor, who survives, and worked as a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for more than 30 years. James was a long time and active member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the male chorus. James’ favorite lifelong pastime was bowling. When he could no longer bowl, he continued to enjoy “shooting the breeze” with his bowling friends. James was loved by everyone he met. He was a friendly and easygoing man who will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his siblings George Crutchfield, Dorothy Crutchfield-Martin, and Louise Crutchfield-Woodson. He leaves to cherish his memory Sondra Taylor, his children, James Derrick Crutchfield and Deborah Lee Darring; his grandson, Israel Ethan Darrring; and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest
Matthew 11:28 KJV
